April
Did you know that Easter Monday falls on April Fool’s Day this year? This is only the tenth time since 1720 when these two have coincided. Not many people know that – even fewer are interested. What is interesting, however, is what Fordingbridge Camera Club is doing. ‘Gorilla in a Yellow Field’ is the title of an evening with Mark Mumford FRPS at 7.30pm on Wednesday 1 May at Avonway. Mark is a leading light in Surreal photography, see his website at www.markmumfordfrps.co.uk These are unusual and imaginative images produced by a digital photographer who is also a top photographer in more traditional work, landscapes and seascapes. Visitors welcome (£3).
If you want to see more high quality images, produced by Fordingbridge Camera Club members, go to www.fordingbridgecameraclub.org.uk Our programme for the season is available there.. It is a mixture of talks by visiting top photographers, coupled with opportunities to show your work and have it commented on by experienced photographic judges. In addition to our regular meetings, we are devoting many evenings to Practical Photography, a group to help members who are new-comers to photography. These sessions have proven to be very popular but are only open to club members. Our regular meetings are held on alternate Wednesdays at 7.30pm at Avonway Community Centre.
Books of interest have been recommended to me by friends in the past; ‘Without Warning’ by Oliver Sudden‘,’ April Fool’ by Sue Prize and ‘Women Rule’ by Iam Write. The one I am reading now has been described as ‘erotic’ and ‘titillating’. However, it has not lived up to the hype it has received; in fact it is quite boring and wooden. I cannot find anything of interest in my copy of ‘Fifty Sheds of Gray’
