Tom's March Publicity

Our Word for Today is:
Effulgence - the state of being bright and radiant - a most apt description of Fordingbridge Camera Club.
Again this year we are holding an exhibition in the Town Hall to show the good people of Fordingbridge the excellent photographic work produced by their friends and neighbours. Not only will work by club members be displayed but also works by some local schools. Of particular interest will be photographs of Fordingbridge firemen in training. Fire fighting - one of the few professions left that still makes house calls! The exhibition will be held on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May and refreshments will include homemade cakes.

We are a friendly, go-ahead club. We meet at Avonway Community Centre at 7.30pm on alternate Wednesdays. Our website, www.fordingbridgecameraclub.org.uk has our programme for the season. It is a mixture of talks by visiting top photographers coupled with opportunities to show your work and have it commented on by experienced photographic judges.
In addition to our regular meetings, we are devoting many evenings to Creative Photography for those who want to explore more advanced aspects of photography. The Practical Photography group is aimed at helping members who are new-comers to photography. These additional sessions have proven to be very popular but are only open to club members.

One talk of particular interest coming soon, on 5 March, is “Black and White Photography in the Digital Age” by Tony Worobiec. Tony spent 18 years as head of a large design faculty in Dorset. His work has appeared in many photographic magazines in the UK and USA. Visitors are welcome for a small fee.

And now a Thought for the Day: Why is’ abbreviated’ such a long word?
